Ananda’s Spiritual Tradition

The teachings which are offered at Ananda are universal and practical, and are based on the principles of Self-realization. All Ananda residents practice these teachings which were brought to the Western world in the last century by Paramhansa Yogananda

Paramhansa Yogananda

The teachings at Ananda are those of Paramhansa Yogananda (1893–1952), author of Autobiography of a Yogi. Yogananda emphasized the underlying unity of all religions. His aim was to help all sincere seekers, regardless of religious affiliation, to personally experience direct inner communion with God.

Swami Kriyananda

Ananda’s founder and spiritual guide is one of the few remaining direct disciples of Paramhansa Yogananda. Now living in India, Kriyananda is dedicating this phase of his life to re-establishing there the principles of Self-realization and balanced living, and to developing Ananda World Brotherhood Communities, spiritual retreat centers, and “Education for Life” schools.

Ananda is located in the tranquil hills of Umbria, Italy on “Strada Statale 444” between Assisi and Gualdo Tadino. It is the largest retreat center in Europe for Yogananda’s teachings.
